Americade-The Big Ride

Day 1... Wednesday... May 22nd:

The weather was lousy. It was pouring rain and barely above freezing when we met our friends at the Dennys in Spokane. After quite a few stops to warm up and intermittant rain we rolled into boise about dusk. Glen stayed at our place and Billie and Dave went to Dave's Brothers house for the night.

Day 2... Thursday... May 23rd:

We got a late start because we had breakfast with Dave's family before leaving Boise, but the weather stayed good and other than Dave losing a nut off his shift lever and having to Mcgiver that down around the Utah border we still managed to roll into Brigham City in plenty of time before dinner.

Day 3...Friday may...24th:

We ate breakfast at a small restaurant near the KOA and headed East on I84 just before Salt Lake. We stopped at Little America for an ice cream cone and a butt break and took furtive looks at the scattered rain clouds. It was more wind than rain however, and when we got to Rawlins, Wyoming we had to take shelter behind some sheds at the KOA to protect us from the wind.

We ate both dinner and breakfast at the truck stop across the freeway from the KOA and got a really good deal on a coupld of leather vests.

Day 4...Saturday...May 25th:

Saturday started out pretty good. The wind was still with us, but at least it wasn't raining. Our good time was slowed though, because Dave fell over going round an s curve at the entrance to the rest stop just west of Cheyenne Wyoming and we wound up spending most of the day there getting his broken hitch fixed.

We didnt get out of Cheyenne til after 5 pm and had to ride hard to make it to North Platte, Nebraska that day. It was after 10 when we got there and nearly midnight by the time we got food. we were really beat!

Day 4.. Sunday...May 26th

We took a few minutes to visit the cody trading post near our campground for a little entertainment before we left town the next morning.

The sun was bright and we enjoyed our ride until Billie's trailer had a flat tire just outside of Kearny, Nebraska. We wound up having to delay yet again to try to find another tire. It was not easy on Sunday on Memorial day weekend. We ate dinner while there so we wouldnt have to stop again and did manage to get into the west Omaha KOA before dark in spite of tornadow warnings in the area. I didnt get a picture of that campground

Day 6...Monday...May 27th...memorial day

We had good weather all day and today's mishap was the handle falling off of Billie's trailer jack as we went off the offramp for gas. Fortunately she was able to get it easily. We were meeting my cousins in Iowa City for dinner, but went on to West Liberty to the KOA to set up camp first.
